Dismissal Procedures

UPDATED DISMISSAL INFORMATION

**ALL FAMILIES SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED A FAMILY NUMBER by Friday 11/14/25!!**

YES!--EVEN WALKERS AND BUS RIDERS

(TRANSPORTATION MAY CHANGE AND EMERGENCIES HAPPEN)

**PLEASE DISTRIBUTE FAMILY NUMBER TO ANY PERSON WHO MAY PICK UP YOUR CHILD IN THE CAR LANE**

Why? . . .

We want to ensure your child(ren)’s safe return to you at the same time and in the exact location daily.

How? . . .

All walkers will be dismissed at 3:18 p.m. from the office exit doors on the Bancroft side of the building. After finding siblings or special adults, they should proceed directly down the sidewalk to the traffic crosswalk to make their way home. Any students who remain on Hawkins property will be directed back to their classrooms to wait as a car rider.

All car-pickup students will remain in the building and be dismissed starting at 3:20 p.m. by their assigned family number as cars enter the pick-up line, allowing all your children to exit the building together and proceed to your vehicle. Bus riders will remain in the building with their teacher until they are called to inform them that their bus has arrived.

At 3:35 p.m., any student not picked up for dismissal will go to the office to wait for their transportation home. The office staff may call home as needed.

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BE PICKED UP BY 3:35 P.M.

When? . . .

We will start these procedures on Monday, November 17th, 2025.

FAQS:
I have a Kindergarten student. How do I know that they will know what to do?  All of our youngest Hawks will be practicing new dismissal routines and procedures inside the building with their teachers. There will be adults and student safety guards along the hallways to assist and guide your student all the way from their classroom to their other siblings, or to your car. K students will also have their backpacks tagged with their family number so staff/safety patrol can easily identify them and assist them in finding their special adults for dismissal.

Where and when do we get our family numbers? Your family number will be sent home with the OLDEST student in your family. Your family number will correspond to the grade level of the OLDEST student at Hawkins in your family. PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILDREN START LEARNING THEIR FAMILY NUMBER ASAP!!

Where do I display my family number? Please use a rubber band or clip to attach your family number to the passenger side visor in your car, so that when the visor is down, it displays outside the front window.

What if I need to change how my child gets home?

  • 5-8 will be expected to know how to get home and will be trusted to take the transportation you provide.
  • For students in grades K-4, a NOTE to the teacher must be sent in with the student. You can attempt to message the teacher via email, or if they use Remind or Classroom Dojo; however, do not assume they have seen the message unless they reply. Teachers are very busy throughout the day and sometimes can not check messages until after dismissal.
  • In an emergency, a phone call to the office can be made. Please keep this to a minimum, as it is disruptive each time the office calls a classroom. All phone call changes must be made before 2 pm.

How can I help now? Please discuss the dismissal procedure with your child and review the rules and expectations you have for them as well. Please also be patient and allow some grace as we navigate through this new process. There will likely be a few hiccups, but we are here for you, and together, Hawkins Strong, we can make this a successful and safe way to dismiss your children each day.

I have other questions/concerns???? Please contact the main office or your child’s teacher. They will be happy to answer your questions or find answers for you if they don't know right away.

Thanks so much for all of your help!

Our supportive families are what make
Hawkins STEAM Academy so WONDERFUL!
